"Secret" ingredients of natural soap
Natural soap is made in a cold way by saponification (alkaline hydrolysis) of vegetable oils with an alkaline solution. As a result of the interaction of oils with an alkaline solution, new products are formed: sodium salts of fatty acids (actually, this is a soap) and glycerin.
The first and most important product of saponification is sodium salts of fatty acids. They are responsible for the cleaning properties, foaming and consistency of the soap. These salts do not penetrate deep into the skin. They clean perfectly.
The second integral component of natural soap is glycerin. Glycerin is produced in human skin cells. It is related to us and necessary. The glycerin molecule easily overcomes the skin barrier and quickly penetrates into the deep layers of the skin, retaining moisture in it. Due to the glycerin content, natural soap from scratch does not dry out the skin and even gives the soap moisturizing properties. Our soap contains about 5% glycerin.
In addition to fatty acid salts and glycerin, our soap contains 5% Super Fat. These are oils that were taken in excess of the norm, that is, an excess of oil relative to what is needed to neutralize the alkali. The fat in the soap works great in tandem with the glycerin and softens the effect of the soap on the skin.
The process of saponification during the production of natural soap in a cold way (without additional heating of the soap mass) lasts 1-1.5 days. After that, the soap needs to "ripen". It needs time to finally dry, to acquire final density and hardness. Otherwise, it washes off quickly and can be very soft after a few applications. Ripening is faster with the "hot" method (with additional heating of the soap mass to 85-100°C) and takes only a few days. Soap cooked in the "cold" method matures for about 20-25 days, depending on the composition of the oils.
CHOOSING NATURAL SOAP is not only an understanding of its safety and benefits, but also positive emotions and aesthetic pleasure from its appearance, aroma, velvety foam... In a word, SPA procedures with natural soap are pure pleasure. In order for the fragrant bar of your favorite natural soap to please you as long as possible, you should follow a few simple RULES for its STORAGE.
Dry soap dish! The soap dish in which your soap is placed should have a ribbed surface and holes for water to drain. Thanks to this design, natural soap will dry quickly after each use and will last much longer, as well as retain its aroma.
It is best to store natural soap in a cool, dark place. Direct sunlight and excessively high air temperature (above 25°С) provoke oxidation of vegetable oils in the composition of soap, it loses its properties and acquires an unpleasant smell.
Temperature mode! The optimal temperature for storing natural soap is 15-22°C. When soap is stored at high temperatures, depending on the oils included in the composition, it may oxidize or crumble due to excessive loss of moisture. If you store soap at a temperature below 0°C, it will begin to crumble after defrosting.
