Wooden puzzle "Pysanka in patterns of Taras Gorodetsky" from Ukrainian Puzzles
Ukrainian pysanka is an art that is passed down from generation to generation. Each pattern has its own meaning, each region has formed its own traditions of painting, and masters of pysanka continue to develop and pass on this knowledge to the next generations.
One of the most prominent modern researchers and masters of pysanka is Taras Yosypovych Gorodetsky (1964–2006). Originally from Lviv region, a civil engineer by education, he became interested in the art of painting pysanka in the early 1990s and quickly became one of the most famous pysanka artists in Ukraine and the world. His works are distinguished by their uniqueness, richness of traditional symbolism and high skill of execution. For almost 15 years, Taras created his miracle pysanka, which were sold all over the world. Knowing his diligence, we can assume that their total number is several thousand copies.
The image for the puzzle is based on the ornament of the Easter egg from the book "The World in Easter Eggs by Taras Gorodetsky", arranged by the Easter egg maker Vira Manko. Some elements of the Easter egg pattern were adapted specifically for this puzzle, while preserving the authenticity and symbolism of the original.
Since ancient times, the Easter egg has been passed down as a talisman, painted by the whole family on Easter, and children are told about the meaning of colors and symbols. Along with this tradition, new ways of introducing children to the art of Easter egg making are emerging - one of them is assembling this puzzle. This is not just a game, it is an introduction to cultural heritage through an interesting activity. This is an opportunity to talk about Ukraine, about ancient traditions, about the fact that the Easter egg is not only a symbol of Easter, but also an important part of our culture.
