Ceramic jug Smotrych handmade ceramics with a bird on a viburnum ornament from "Keramika Podillya" is a work of Ukrainian craftsmen from Vinnytsia region, who revive the cultural heritage of Ukraine by making dishes with ancient Ukrainian painting of their region.
Smotrych ceramics is a traditional type of artistic pottery from the village of Smotrych (Khmelnytskyi region, Podillya), known since the 18th century. Podillya craftsmen were famous for their painted glazed products, which had a white or yellowish background and expressive green and dark brown accents.
In the past, Smotrych was a powerful trading and pottery center of the region. Today, the traditions of this craft are being revived by modern craftsmen, transferring ancient motifs to modern forms.
Please note: the painting on the ceramics is made based on traditional Podillya patterns - the product is not a replica or copy of authentic museum exhibits, but is their modern creative interpretation.
Symbolism of the ornament:
- Zozulka (bird) on a branch: a trademark of Smotrytsky painting. In the Podolsk tradition, the bird personifies spring, good news, harmony and family happiness.
- Flowers and leaves: a sign of rebirth, fertility, wealth and continuity of life.
- Zigzags, wavy and horizontal lines: a geometric protective decor that symbolizes water, connection with the earth and creates a talisman for the home.
Use and care:
- Microwave and oven: dishes are suitable for heating and baking (it is recommended to put in the oven before heating it).
- Dishwasher: do not wash! The product should only be cared for by hand with a soft sponge to preserve the integrity of the glaze.
This jug combines practicality, beauty and rich Ukrainian history.
