Smotrych handmade ceramic bowl with a small zozulya ornament on a branch is a handmade work by Ukrainian craftsmen from Vinnytsia region, who revive the cultural heritage of Ukraine by making dishes with ancient Ukrainian painting of their region.
Smotrych ceramics is a traditional type of artistic pottery from the village of Smotrych (Khmelnytskyi region, Podillya), known since the 18th century. Podillya craftsmen were famous for their painted glazed plates, which had a white or yellowish background and expressive green and dark brown accents.
In the past, Smotrych was a powerful trading and pottery center of the region. Today, the traditions of this craft are being revived by modern craftsmen, and samples of ancient products are kept in museums and private collections.
Symbolism of the ornament:
- Zozulya (bird) on a branch: a trademark of Smotrych painting. A bird in the Podillya tradition personifies spring, good news, harmony and family happiness.
- Leaves and berries: a sign of fertility, wealth and continuity of life.
- Zigzags and wavy lines along the edge: geometric protective decor, symbolizing water and a protective circle for the home.
Use and care:
- Microwave and oven: the dishes are suitable for heating and baking (it is recommended to put them in the oven before heating them).
- Dishwasher: do not wash! The product should only be cared for by hand with a soft sponge to preserve the integrity of the glaze.
