This large, handcrafted Smotrych-style ceramic platter—featuring a festive bird motif—is the work of artisans from the "Keramika Podillia" (Podillia Ceramics) collective in the Vinnytsia region. They are dedicated to reviving Ukraine's cultural heritage by creating tableware adorned with the traditional painting styles of their region.
Smotrych ceramics represent a traditional form of artistic pottery originating from the settlement of Smotrych (Khmelnytskyi region, Podillia), a craft dating back to the 18th century. Podillia artisans were renowned for their hand-painted, glazed plates, characterized by white or yellowish backgrounds and distinctive green and dark brown accents.
Historically, Smotrych was a major trading and pottery hub in the region. Today, modern artisans are reviving these craft traditions, while examples of antique pieces are preserved in museums and private collections.
