Trypillian Goddess Figurine (Vinnytsia Region) — crafted by artisans from the 'Paths of the Trypillian Great Mother' cluster.
A unique, handcrafted piece created following the ancient traditions of ceramics and sacred sculpture from the Trypillian civilization. The figurine recreates the archaic image of the Trypillian Great Mother—a figure that, for millennia, served as a protective talisman for the family, ensuring prosperity and the continuation of the lineage.
In Trypillian culture, images of female deities held a central place. They embodied the feminine principle, the fertility of the soil, the rebirth of nature, and the protection of the home. Rhomboid patterns, intersecting lines, and stripes symbolize sown fields, flowing water, life-giving light, and the harmony of natural cycles.
The Trypillians would place such figurines in the foundations of new dwellings or keep them near household altars to ward off evil forces and attract well-being.
About the Creators and the Place of Origin
This piece was born in a picturesque and sacred corner of the Vinnytsia region—the village of Bukatynka. Founded back in 1606, this ancient settlement is renowned for its unique natural landscape and rich archaeological heritage, which includes remnants of both the Trypillian and Bug-Dniester cultures.
The Story of the Alyoshkin Family: In 1979, a couple of artists—Oleksiy (from Kyiv) and Liudmyla (from ...Minska) — they moved to Bukatynka, the ancestral home of Liudmyla’s paternal line. Initially, due to a lack of available housing, they lived in an earthen dugout, but later, with the help of their parents, they built a house of their own.
Art and Education: The couple raised five children, all of whom chose creative paths. For over 40 years, the Aloshkins dedicated themselves to teaching in local schools. They have purchased—at their own expense—or reached agreements with the owners of abandoned, dilapidated houses in the neighborhood, transforming them into museums. By removing fences, the entire homestead has been converted into a unified museum and art space.
Legacy and Recognition: This creative lineage continues through the work of their daughter, Daria Aloshkina—an internationally renowned artist specializing in *vytynanka* (traditional Ukrainian intricate paper-cutting). Her large-scale *vytynanka* works, ranging from 2.5 to 5 meters in height, have been showcased in museums and galleries across Poland, Germany, France, Canada, Italy, Denmark, and South Korea. They have even adorned the display windows of a Cartier boutique and gained further prominence thanks to film star Nicole Kidman.
By purchasing this figurine, you acquire not merely an aesthetic art object, but a piece of profound Ukrainian history—reimagined and preserved by these master artisans.
