The Kentavrida program is designed to develop an awareness of children and youth about the myths, legends, history and geography of Ukraine and Tavria, historical and mythical figures, whose images can nurture in new generations understanding of the values of life, love for Earth, nature, humanity and self-development.

Kentavrida is a program that implements an annual grant competition for writers, including beginners, who want to create works of art for children and adolescents, based on historical and mythological data about the territory and inhabitants of the Tavria region of Ukraine. The narrative of the work may not be limited to the territory of Tavria - the southern regions of Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula. For your inspiration and understanding of the scope of the topic, we note that we do not count the history of the lands and peoples of Ukraine from 1991 or 1654, and not from Kiy, Shchek and Khoriv, but from the creation of the universe and our planet.

The winners' works will be published in the Kentaurida collection. A part of the print run will be sent to the authors of the works, partly distributed free of charge to libraries in Ukraine, and partly sold on the The It`s Craft website. The proceeds from the book sales will be returned to the charity fund for the creation of books by competition.

Other works that will not be published in a printed collection may be published as an e-book on the The It`s Craft website with the author's consent. In this case, the author will receive a bonus for each story as a percentage of the book's cost (royalties of 25% of the book's cost).

Terms of the competition

The Kentavrida program is ongoing with the annual contest for the birthday of the "IT'S CRAFT" platform, which sets a deadline of May 12 until 23:59. The deadline for submission of proposals is May 12, 2024.

The competition is implemented in two stages:

In the first stage, applicants submit their proposals in the form of a logline and a synopsis of the work. The tender commission selects the proposals according to the eligibility criteria, which are transferred to the second stage of selection.

In the second stage, the applicant submits a complete work and proposals for the design of the work, if any.

Applications for the first stage can be submitted all year round. You will receive a response for admission to the second stage within three weeks of submitting the application.

The decision on the winner of the competition is made within 4 weeks. All participants will receive a response regarding the results in the e-mail specified in the application form.

How to submit a tender:

To participate in the contest you need to do three things:

  1. Fill out the form with your details at - https://forms.gle/6SRNNRpmjdQYtWFu7.
  2. Submit the essence of the work (logline*) and synopsis** (structured description of the work) in Ukrainian  - uploaded to kentavrida@gmail.com, in the subject of the letter write "Application for the Kentavrida 2024 competition".

* If you only fill out the form but do not submit a synopsis and logline, your application will not be accepted:

** If you submit only a synopsis and logline, but do not submit the full work for the committee's consideration, you will not be eligible to win the contest.

* Logline - a short summary of the work (book, movie, TV show), which reveals the main conflict of the story, a brief summary of the plot and an emotional "hook" that attracts the attention of the audience. Logline size is often a single sentence of up to 25 words. Logline indicates the time, place, and circumstances of the events of the work, names the main character and his enemy (antagonist) and talks about the connection that leads to the development of action, conflict (moral plan) and purpose of the work.

** Synopsis - a short linear presentation of the concept of the work of art, its content, the essence of the conflict, and the dramatic situation in an exciting way. In the synopsis, there is a connection, turning points, culmination and denouement. The synopsis answers the following questions: What is this story about? Who are the main characters? What do they aspire to and why? What obstacles stand in the way? The synopsis does not retell the whole story, but only interests in full acquaintance with it. For a better understanding and better preparation of the synopsis, you can familiarize yourself with the three-act structure of scripting.
