The author's reinterpretation of folk legends that lived and live in Sumy Oblast. These stories are filled with instructive content and reveal the peculiarities of the mentality of our people.
The main character is Grandpa Som - a mystical character who lives in Castle Mountain - a magical place full of events that cannot be explained. But the most mysterious thing is that he knows how to foretell the future to travelers, gives true wisdom to those who need it, fights against evil forces, helps to restore justice and faith in the best, which is so important at all times. Grandfather Soma is turned to in times of need, or he himself comes when it is most needed, saves the peasant community from misfortunes and warns of troubles. Each story reveals the following aspects of morality: honest work for the benefit of society and one's family, true loyalty, lack of envy for the good of others, harmonious coexistence of man and nature.
Anna Viktorivna Havrylenko was born in the village of Yamne, in the Velikopysaryov region (Sumy region).
In 2020, she obtained the educational and qualification level of Master (with honors) in the specialty: "Fine, decorative arts, restoration" at the Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko
Since 2020, he has been working as a methodologist in the intangible cultural heritage department of the Sumy Regional Scientific and Methodological Center of Culture and Arts. Hence the fascination with folk art and ethnography. In particular, in 2022, the above-mentioned institution launched the "Ancient Fairy Tale" project, which inspired the author to create a three-part story "Grandfather Catfish. Three legends told a long time ago." This work became a test of the pen and was aimed at popularizing legends and mystical stories collected on the territory of Sumy Oblast, so that as many Ukrainians as possible could plunge into the mysterious world of folk art and learn about the local tradition of fantastic and unusual storytelling.
This book was created and published as part of the charitable project "Kentavrida". In 2022, our charitable foundation "It's Craft" initiated a project where writers write works based on the history or legends of Ukraine, and after competitive selection, some works are published in the "Centaurida" collection, and others you can read in electronic form. The printed and electronic collection of winning works can also be purchased in the Books section.
The project is designed to dispel the remnants of inferiority and disrespect for Ukrainian culture and our historical figures, and most importantly - to form such a good level of knowledge about Ukrainian heroes and values that there will never be wars and strife on our land again.
